Marymatha Construction company has secured a job for construction of regulator-cum-bridge on Periyar river in Indian state of Kerala. During high tide the water level in sea rises and because of this the sea water starts flowing back into river. New structure will permit control over the water flow to the river. This project is going to be helpful in solving some environmental and potable water issues and scarcity of water for agriculture in places adjacent to the bridge.
Contractor has to construct a two-lane bridge of 7.50 metre each side and a regulator at a length of 180 metres across the river. The project includes three sheet pile cofferdams in stages of 60 m each for dewatering and construction.
Kerala based Marymatha purchased a Movax SP-50F Side-Grip vibro for constructing the cofferdams. Sheet piles of 8 to 12 M length are driven with the Side-Grip sheet piler on JCB 210 excavator mounted on a barge to allow operation across the river. The works are likely to be completed in two years.
