Vale EFVM railways took a delivery of Movax SG-50 Side-Grip fitted onto Cat 323D machine. The pile driver has been acquired by the railway maintenance team and is used for installing king post type wall along the railway track. These solid walls are providing protection against mudslides which are well-known problem in this hilly and mountainous region. A specific feature of this project is a use of used railway tracks as piling material. Vale’s Movax SG-50 is fitted with special designed gripping pads to take a railway track into its Side-Grip.
The Estrada de Ferro Vitória-Minas is a Brazilian railway linking the city of Belo Horizonte, capital of Minas Gerais and the mining region Itabira to the Metropolitan Region of Victoria, and the ports in the region. It is one of the few Brasilian railways with daily passenger trains and one of the most important route for freight. It is being used to transport iron ore, is also used for the transport of steel, coal, limestone, granite, container, pig iron, agricultural products, wood, pulp, fuel and various loads. The EFVM is operated by Vale, one of the largest mining companies and iron ore producers in the world.
