Construction of a bridge

Germany

Dresden

The construction of Dresden`s controversial Waldschlösschen Bridge in the Elbe Valley has begun in 2007. The completion date is estimated for the end of 2012.

The design of the bridge was chosen in order to minimize the visual impact of the construction on the historic city skyline and palaces along the Elbe. The construction project includes the realization of entry and exit points through several tunnel and ramp structures on the bridge crossing the river Elbe in Dresden.

A sheet pile wall was built as a cofferdam around the bridge pillar basement. As a part of the finishing process after building the pillars the cofferdam must be extracted.

The German civil engineering company Autopartner from Bad Düben was in charge of extracting the 12 meter long double piles. The work was conducted with a Movax SPH-80 which was mounted on 32 ton excavator. One of the big benefits, stated by Autopartner, is the Side Grip of the Movax which allows the work under the height limited area. Another benefit, in the point of work security, is that the operator could do all extracting and steering of the piles without any laborer.
