Gas pipelines have to be inspected regularly both inside and outside. These inspections are based on a current measurement that shows damages in the insulation layer and exact location of the failure. Imperfections occur mostly on an outer layer of the pipe insulation.
Repairing the cracks requires special expertise but the work can only begin after the pipe is exposed. This is when Austrian pipe laying specialist Habau utilise the Movax Side-Grip vibratory hammer.
In most cases the excavation must be secured by a sheet pile wall. The depth of the pit is usually around 4 metres and the piles are driven to depths between 6 and 8 metres. 8 metres long double piles were used at this construction site.
